Overview

This is a private two-and-a-half-hour walk for your group through four of downtown Toronto's heritage stops. We start at the Church of the Holy Trinity, which opened in 1847 and whose congregation fought off demolition in the 1970s.

From there we walk to Nathan Phillips Square and the two City Halls, Mackenzie House and the Cathedral Church of St. James, which opened in 1853. Each stop keeps its own hours, so we confirm the running order and meeting point by email.

Questions about this tour

Can we go inside the cathedral and Holy Trinity?

It depends on the date; the cathedral lists Monday to Saturday hours and Holy Trinity has no public visiting hours, so we confirm by email.

Is Mackenzie House open and free?

It is listed as open Wednesday to Sunday with free general admission, though its historic part is under restoration; groups of 15 or more pay a fee and must book 14 days ahead.

Why is Holy Trinity next to the Eaton Centre?

The church was there first, opening in 1847, and it survived 1970s demolition plans tied to the mall's development.

Who was William Lyon Mackenzie?

He was Toronto's first mayor and led the 1837 rising; Mackenzie House was his final home.

What's the difference between Old City Hall and Toronto City Hall?

Toronto City Hall is the modern seat of government, while Old City Hall is an older National Historic Site that only opens occasionally.

Is it suitable for young children?

We found no age limit; just share the children's ages when you book.

Is admission included?

Not stated; we'll confirm by email whether any stop charges or asks for a donation.

How do I book?

Pick your date and number of guests in the booking box and send the request. We check with our local partners and email you within 24 hours to confirm, with a secure payment link. You pay nothing until you approve it.

Cancellation and payment

You can cancel up to 24 hours before your tour date; cancellations made less than 24 hours before are not refunded. You pay only after you approve your quote, by secure online payment. Read the full policies.

Partly accessible. Holy Trinity is mostly accessible via ramp at its south doors, but its second-floor chapel is not; Mackenzie House is partially accessible; no statement for the cathedral or Old City Hall. Share mobility needs when booking.
